Kennedy’s curse
Commentary by Roger Wm. Hughes
It appears that the Kennedy curse of insanity and immoral actions
continues to infect the Kennedy’s. Robert Kennedy Jr. in a
commentary blames Hurricane Katrina on Gov. Haley Barber and the
failure to implement the Kyoto Accord.
Gov. Barber accurately urged Republicans to abjure the Kyoto agreement
because it placed greater burden on America than other nations. The
agreement further exempted nations like China and India who are likely
to soon be the largest polluters of CO2 in the world. Despite this,
Kennedy espouses rhetoric that proves that he truly is the hyperbole
that he mocks - an eco-extremist.
Democrats anti-religious
The
Pew Research Center reports that Democrats are viewed by an even
larger percentage of the population as being against religious values:
Both major political parties have a problem with their approach toward
religion, in the eyes of many Americans. More than four-in-ten say
that liberals who are not religious have too much control over the
Democratic Party, while an almost identical percentage says that
religious conservatives have too much influence over the Republican
Party.
The public also has distinctly different perceptions of both parties
when it comes to dealing with religion and personal freedoms. By a
wide margin 51% to 28% the Republican Party is seen as most
concerned with protecting religious values. By a nearly identical
margin (52%-30%), the Democratic Party is perceived as most concerned
with protecting the freedom of citizens to make personal choices.
Yet the Democrats' strength in this area is overshadowed by a sharp
erosion in the number of Americans who believe the party is friendly
toward religion. Only about three-in-ten (29%) see the Democrats as
friendly toward religion, down from 40% last August. Meanwhile, a
solid majority (55%) continues to view the Republicans as friendly
toward religion.
Roberts opposition grows
The
Washington Post reports on the left wing’s growing opposition to
John Roberts:
The Alliance for Justice, a coalition of 71 women's rights,
environmental and other liberal advocacy groups, issued a 103-page
report yesterday attacking John G. Roberts Jr.'s record and announced
formal opposition to his Supreme Court nomination.
"Judge Roberts has advocated diminishing the role the courts play in
enforcing individual rights and freedoms," Alliance president Nan Aron
said at news conference. She contended that Roberts has "expressed
strong objections to the courts' long-standing recognition of the
right to privacy," the right that underpins the Supreme Court's 1973
decision on abortion, Roe v. Wade .
Sheehan galvanized opposition
The
ABC News/Washington Post poll shows that Cindy Sheehan’s peacenik
efforts have increased support for the war:
Anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan has won some sympathizers, but hasn't
changed many minds: As many Americans say Sheehan has made them more
likely to support the war as to oppose it, and the vast majority says
she hasn't changed their views at all.
