Bush: This is a sad hourPresident Bush offered these words in remembrance of America's fallen leader, Ronald Wilson Reagan: This is a sad hour in the life of America. A great American life has come to an end. I have just spoken to Nancy Reagan. On behalf of our whole nation, Laura and I offered her and the Reagan family our prayers and our condolences. Ronald Reagan won America's respect with his greatness, and won its love with his goodness. He had the confidence that comes with conviction, the strength that comes with character, the grace that comes with humility, and the humor that comes with wisdom. He leaves behind a nation he restored and a world he helped save. During the years of President Reagan, America laid to rest an era of division and self-doubt. And because of his leadership, the world laid to rest an era of fear and tyranny. Now, in laying our leader to rest, we say thank you. He always told us that for America, the best was yet to come. We comfort ourselves in the knowledge that this is true for him, too. His work is done, and now a shining city awaits him. May God bless Ronald Reagan. President Reagan dies at 93"My family and I would like the world to know that President Ronald Reagan has passed away after 10 years of Alzheimer's disease at 93 years of age. We appreciate everyone's prayers," Nancy Reagan said in a statement. Former President Ronald Reagan died at 1 p.m., June 5, of pneumonia complicated by Alzheimer’s disease. His wife, Nancy Reagan, and his children Ron and Patti Davis, were at the couple's Los Angeles home when Reagan died. Reagan’s son, Michael, joined them shortly thereafter. In Paris, President Bush called Reagan's death "a sad day for America." Across America, flags flew at half-staff to honored Reagan’s death. Moments of silence were observed at ballparks and at the Belmont Stakes. According to an Associated Press article, Reagan's body is expected to be taken to his presidential library and museum in Simi Valley, Calif., and then flown to Washington to lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda. His funeral is expected to be at the National Cathedral, with burial at sunset burial at his library in California. Kerry’s Veteran Supporters: Fact or fiction?by Roger Wm. Hughes The Associated Press reports that Sen. John Kerry has recruited a large numbers of service men that want him to be their Commander-in-Chief. "You'd be amazed at the number of active duty personnel who are coming up at events around the country, greeting me in rope-lines or coming to rallies and telling me how important it is for us to stand up and fight for those who are not able to speak out for themselves right now for obvious reasons," John Kerry said. It seems that part of the myth of Kerry’s veteran support stems from his service in Vietnam on a swift boat. He frequently has one or two of his service buddies or the person he pulled from the river to exemplify his heroic Vietnam service. Unfortunately for Kerry, most of the individuals he shows in his band of brothers picture from his swift boat days say that "Kerry is unfit to be commander-in-Chief.” In fact, only two of the 19 pictured with Kerry say that they want Kerry elected President. On the other hand, 11 say that Kerry is unfit and they are now suing Kerry to make him stop using the photo fraudulently indicating they support him. That doesn’t hinder Kerry from trying to continue the myth or from giving his speech that he’s going to out Donald Rumsfeld - Rumsfeld on re-making the military into a faster, lighter and more powerful one. This, of course, puts him at odds with most of the military, who want to support him because of their being wedded to the 80’s and 90’s Powell Doctrine of superior force in mass. Kerry clearly doesn’t care about this fission with his supporters as long as he can show himself as being strong on national defense. Another great cry from Kerry in his foreign policy/military lead up to D-Day is the fact that Bush has cut veterans benefits. "You can't run around the country talking about patriotism, the flag and service to the nation and willfully turn your back on the people you've asked to serve," John Kerry said. However, Kerry’s accusation of President Bush not helping our veterans doesn’t hold true. The record shows that in 2001, the Department of Veterans' Affairs budget stood at $48 billion dollars. Today, it is $65 billion dollars -- the largest increase in the history of this department. In four years, the President has requested of Congress almost 20% more in funding for the VA than the previous administration requested from Congress in 8 years. The VA's health care budget has gone up more than 40% since the President came into office, and that certainly is the largest increase in 50 years. For the first time in 100 years, our President signed into law legislation allowing disable veterans to receive both military retirement pay and their disability compensation. No President in the past, Republican or Democrat, ever did so. Further, the President has authorized the Department to open 12 new cemeteries between now and 2009, the greatest expansion in our national cemetery system for veterans since the Civil War. So where is the unprecedented veterans support for a Kerry Commander-in-Chief? Part of the answer seems to lie with the media. Dan Rather of CBS interviewed a D-Day veteran who tried to discredit President Bush’s reference to WW II being equivalent to today’s war where those who loved freedom were confronted by those who favored dictators and the loss of freedom. The veteran said that this War on Terrorism was not like WW II because the world was divided against a unified enemy then and today the terrorist themselves are divided. This logic presupposes that in today’s world terrorism requires the unity of function required in past industrial times. It doesn’t. However, the question remains: Where are the hordes of veterans who support Kerry? Is it as the media portrays -- that the dissatisfaction with the War on Terrorism and events in Iraq have America weak in the knees on what it will take to root out this global evil of despotic Islamic extremism? Evidence shows that there are more active supporters on the Internet of veterans against Kerry than Republicans. There is scheduled an upcoming massive veterans march against Kerry on Sept. 12 in Washington, D.C. Now, there is some question whether President Bush is whom they want or whether Kerry is so unacceptable they would do anything to see to it that he didn’t win. It may be more the later. At the heart of this seems to be not only what many feel was his traitorous actions of joining with Jane Fonda in protesting the Vietnam War, but also his record of not favoring a strong secure nation with his votes in the Senate. You add to this the fact that Kerry was a at a 1971 Veterans Against the War meeting in Kansas City where the group discussed assassinating U.S. senators and there clearly is a strong vehement antipathy for a Kerry Presidency by American’s veterans. RNC Chair Gillespie fires back at SorosEd Gillespie, Chairman of the Republican National Committee, offered the following to Bush supporters regarding the Take Back America Conference that went over the top: Yesterday, at the "Take Back America Conference" for liberal activists, Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton introduced George Soros with effusive praise. Then in his remarks Mr. Soros--the billionaire supporter of John Kerry and MoveOn.org--equated the attacks of September 11 to the Abu Ghraib prison abuse and went on to say, "The war on terror has taken more innocent victims than the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001." Unbelievable. Abu Ghraib was bad and the soldiers involved are rightly being punished, but for Democrats to say that the abuse of Iraqi fighters is the moral equivalent of the slaughter of 3,000 innocent Americans is outrageous. Recently, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called President Bush "an incompetent leader," and said the President has "no judgment, no experience and no knowledge" and that he has the deaths of thousands of soldiers "on his shoulders." The hatred of the President by the San Francisco/Boston Democrats--led by John Kerry--is fueling a blame America first mentality that is troubling, and voters will reject it in November! But their anger won't slow a growing economy, it was announced today that 248,000 new jobs were created in May, meaning more than 1.1 million new jobs have been created this year! Thanks to the President’s leadership our economy is strong, and getting stronger.
