"You can't kind of fumble around with your value
system on the people's time. You've got to be rock
solid in what you believe,"
President Bush
said. "I'm anxious for [the campaign] to
get started. . . . But I'm not going to change.
I'm not going to change my principles. I'm not
going to change my value system in order to win
the vote."
"You can't tax the rich enough to pay for all his
promises, so guess who's going to pay?"
President Bush
said. "You're going to pay. And we're not
going to let him [John Kerry] do that, though."
It's extremely surprising that, once the word was
passed to Rumsfeld, he didn't tell the president
and his team so they could prepare to defend
themselves,"
said former White House advisor David Gergen, who
has served presidents of both parties.
David
Letterman’s monologue:
"President Bush by the way ... he was interviewed
on Arabic television. His interview went very
well, lasted about five minutes, he raised $3
million.
"And then, John Kerry spent the day reading to
preschoolers ... and the kids said Kerry actually
lacked warmth and failed to articulate a clear
message.
"And then, Bush also read to preschoolers and he
raised over $3 million."
Kerry: apologize Bush
Sen. John Kerry continued to call for President
Bush to apologize and for Defense Secretary Donald
Rumsfeld’s resignation.
"The president of the United States needs to offer
the world an explanation and needs to take
appropriate responsibility, and if that includes
apologizing for the behavior of those soldiers and
(for) what happened, we ought to do that," Kerry
said. "I think the world wants to hear from the
president that the United States of America
regrets any kind of abuse of this kind ... because
we have to show the world that we're willing to
correct our mistakes.
"The horrifying abuse of Iraqi prisoners which the
world has now seen is absolutely unacceptable and
inexcusable. And the response of the
administration, certainly the Pentagon has been
slow and inappropriate."
Rumsfeld’s troubles
The
LA Times reports on the issue of the
President being displeased with Secretary of
Defense Donald Rumsfeld’s performance with the
Iraq prison abuse:
Bush rebuked Rumsfeld during an Oval Office
meeting, a senior administration official said
Wednesday evening. Bush told Rumsfeld that the
White House should have been informed about the
photographs documenting some of the abuses, which
began appearing in the news media late last week,
the senior official said.
Powell tired
GQ Magazine has an article titled "Casualty of
War." In the article it outlines the fact that
Secretary of State Colin Powell is wearing down in
his service to President Bush. The article also
expresses dissatisfaction with some of the Bush
administration’s policies.
"He [Powell] has spent as much time doing damage
control and, shall we say, apologizing around the
world for some less-than-graceful actions as he
has anything else," chief of staff Larry Wilkerson
is quoted in GQ.
The 527’s
The
Washington Times covers the issue of
campaign finance and the 527 [PAC] committees:
"Nobody wants to be accused of coordinating and be
the first person hauled before a court of justice
on this," said Evan Tracey, chief operating
officer of TNSMI/Campaign Media Analysis Group,
which monitors campaign-ad spending.
Despite this fact, 527 committees have kept Sen.
John Kerry in the race. However, there is some
question about the effectiveness:
In the week ending April 27, for example, 97
percent of Bush ad dollars addressed one broad
issue: Iraq and Mr. Kerry's votes on the war and
defense spending. During the same period, however,
the Kerry campaign and the pro-Kerry 527s barred
from coordinating with each other fielded a
combined total of 11 individual commercials on
several subjects: Iraq, the economy, job
outsourcing, prescription-drug benefits, clean
air, and Hispanic outreach, according to Mr.
Tracey.
In one instance, a pro-Kerry 527 group ran a
clean-air ad in West Virginia at the same time Mr.
Kerry was cultivating votes of coal miners by
visiting mines in the state, said Mr. Tracey.
Poll watching
President Bush’s poll numbers continue to fall
with his favorable rating dropping 3 percentage
points. However, when a candidate runs negative
ads against the opponent it is usual for the
candidate running the ads to drop in favorable
ratings. It is also true that if the ads are
effective the opponent -- John Kerry -- should
drop even more.
This is the case in the 18 battleground states
where 36 percent of those questioned now have a
negative view of Kerry, while 35 percent see him
favorably - down from March, when Kerry's ratings
were 41 percent positive and 28 percent negative.
Michael Moore vs. Disney
Right March is trying to reinforce the Disney
Corporation decision to not distribute Michael
Moore’s latest movie, “Fahrenheit 911”:
ALERT: Michael Moore HATES people like you and me.
Now, as our friends at PABAAH.com have been
telling the world, he has a new "documentary" that
proves it again.
Titled "Fahrenheit 911," it's nothing more than a
political assassination piece aimed at attacking
and discrediting President George W. Bush. The
film is reportedly full of forced attempts to
depict an illicit relationship between the Bush
and Bin Laden families, as well as insisting that
the President *welcomed* the horrific events of
Sept. 11, 2001, to enable a power grab.
Extremely anti-American in his views, Michael
Moore is a proven opponent of the war on
terrorism. He already has unjustly attacked and
unfairly condemned the Bush Administration and its
efforts to protect our country. He is dedicated to
bringing down the Bush Presidency, as evidenced by
his scathing Oscar night attack. And his previous
films, such as "Bowling for Columbine," reveal
just how seething Moore's hatred is for the basic
patriotic American values that you and I hold
dear.
Making this latest film all the more dangerous is
Moore's well-documented fondness for not just
misrepresenting the truth but presenting lies as
facts in his so-called documentaries. "Fahrenheit
911" promises to be offensive and profane... which
makes it all the more stunning that initially,
Disney and Icon Productions were backing this
film. Initial outrage forced both of them to
terminate their association; however, Miramax
chose to provide bridge financing.
Thanks in large part to the petitioning efforts of
our friends at PABAAH.com, the NY Times is now
reporting that the Walt Disney Company is blocking
its Miramax division
from distributing the new "documentary" by Moore.
Thank goodness. If Moore wants this film
distributed, let him put his OWN money into it.
Mel Gibson had to do it, why shouldn't he?
Well, radical left-wing groups like MoveOn.org and
Democrats.com are FURIOUS. And they're telling
their members to contact Disney and DEMAND that "Farenheit
911" be distributed across the country... at least
in time for the Presidential election. How
non-partisan of them.
Disney is doing something RIGHT for a change. They
need to be encouraged in this action... and YOU
need to thank them NOW.
TAKE ACTION: Patriotic Americans across the
country need to contact Disney TODAY to thank them
for doing the right thing, and to encourage them
to stay the course... Say NO
To Michael Moore! All of the phone calls and
emails to Disney and Eisner's office apparently
have paid off, but we MUST STAY THE COURSE!
Go to the official Disney website below to send a
FREE message, thanking them for refusing to
distribute Michael Moore's latest venomous
anti-American tirade:

Bush to strengthen Cuban embargo
AFP reports that President Bush will announce new
measures to strengthen the Cuban embargo Thursday:
The steps will include enhanced efforts to stymie
Havana's jamming of US-funded radio and television
broadcasts into Cuba and better enforcement of
limits on the amount of money Cuban-Americans can
send to relatives on the island in remittances,
the officials said.
In addition, Bush is to call for boosting
assistance to Cuba's struggling indigenous
dissident movement, hit badly last year by a
government crackdown on Castro opponents, with
training and equipment, they said.
Freepers & Bubba
"Inside the Beltway" column in the Washington
Times has this interesting story about
FreeRepublic.com, a.k.a “Freepers”:
Actress Drew Barrymore is filming a documentary
aimed at persuading young people to vote. She
recently happened upon members of the D.C. chapter
of FreeRepublic.com, the conservative grass-roots
network, as they conducted a Washington protest.
"Can I ask you guys a question?" Miss Barrymore
said. "You come out and you protest. Do you feel
that it makes a difference? Do you feel that you
reach people?"
Group leader Kristinn Taylor answered: "We used to
do this down at the White House every Saturday for
a couple years when Bill Clinton was there. It
goes like this" — and here Mr. Taylor turned to
his fellow Freepers, to have them join in the
chant. "You guys ready? One, two, three: 'Bill
Clinton, we have you surrounded! Drop the cigar,
step away from the intern, and come out with your
pants up.' "
"Wow," said the actress.
"The first time we did that," Mr. Taylor said,
"the Secret Service officer who was working the
gate started laughing so hard he doubled over and
walked behind the guard shack to compose himself."
