Poll: Bush Leads by 11 Points During RNC
A new poll, taken by Time magazine of 926 likely voters, shows
President Bush with an 11-point lead over John Kerry -- 52 percent to
41 percent. Nader had 5 percent. The poll was taken Aug. 31-September
2. Even with the margin of error (plus or minus 4 points), the decline
in Kerry’s campaign is significant and perhaps more is to come.
According to the AP article:
Veteran pollsters say that polls taken during convention weeks should
be viewed with caution because they are conducted at a point when
public opinion is focused on only one party and a bounce in the
numbers could be short-lived.
However, they also noted that polls taken during conventions can
sometimes foreshadow a longer lasting bounce. Much of the poll was
taken before President Bush's speech on Thursday night.
Other bad news for Kerry:
Bush leads Kerry in areas like handling terrorism, handling Iraq, and
providing strong leadership. Bush and Kerry were about even on
handling the economy, an improvement for Bush compared with other
recent polls.
Kerry campaign aides questioned the size of
the Bush lead and pointed to other national polls taken in recent days
that show the race is close.
Massive ‘Kerry Lied’ Rally set for
Sept. 12
Vietnam Vets for the Truth [website:
www.KerryLied.com] has organized a massive ‘Kerry Lied’ Rally
for Sept. 12 in Washington, D.C. The group -- an organization of
patriotic Vietnam veterans – is rallying at the U.S. Capitol building
to challenge truthfulness of presidential candidate John Kerry’s
longstanding claims of widespread atrocities and war crimes during
that war.
The group represents men and women who served honorably during that
war and feel terribly maligned by Kerry. Under leadership of their
president, CAPT Larry W. Bailey, USN (Ret.), former commanding officer
of the Navy SEAL school, they have announced two important dates for
upcoming events in Washington, D.C.:

Official Navy probe into Kerry war medals,
records
NewsMax.com article:
The United States Navy has launched an official investigation into
John Kerry's Vietnam War decorations, saying, "it's the responsibility
of all personnel to correct errors in official records."
In a launching a formal probe, the Navy was responding to a referral
from the Pentagon's inspector general's office - based on a complaint
filed by the Washington-based legal watchdog group Judicial Watch, Fox
News reported Friday. In a letter to Judicial Watch, the inspector
general's office said:
Concerning our allegations of violations of Uniform Code of Military
Justice, we have the responsibility to . . . 'report suspected or
alleged violations.' We have informed the secretary of the Navy of the
allegations."
Former Navy Secretary John Lehman, who has challenged the authenticity
of his signature on one of Kerry's war decorations, told Fox that Navy
records needed to be "thoroughly researched and the facts
established."
Most questions about Kerry's combat record appear to be based on
processing errors, Navy sources told the news network.
However, even if the errors were based on inadvertent mistakes, any
corrections would force the top Democrat to acknowledge that citations
touting his heroism that have been posted to his Web site for months
were false - a development that could have devastating political
consequences.
"Even if it was the Navy's fault," one source following the story told
NewsMax, "surely Sen. Kerry knew the citations were wrong. Why did it
take a formal Navy probe for him to correct records he had to know
were fraudulent?"
Kerry received five medals during his four months in combat in
Vietnam, including a Silver Star with a "Combat V" designation. A Navy
source confirmed last week, however, that in the entire history of the
Navy, no Silver Star has ever been awarded with "Combat V."
Kerry campaign spokesman Michael Meehan suggested that the Navy probe
was a waste of time and money.
"The facts are clear, the Navy awarded John Kerry the Silver Star, a
Bronze Star with a Combat V and three Purple Hearts. It is waste of
taxpayer's dollars and the Pentagon's time, especially during wartime,
to investigate a 35-year-old Navy clerical error," Meehan said in
statement.
In 1996, Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Jeremy Boorda committed
suicide after he was accused of wearing medals he hadn't earned.
At the time, Kerry told the Boston Herald that the error was
"sufficient to question his leadership position."
"If you wind up being less than what you're pretending to be, there is
a major confrontation with value, self-esteem and your sense of how
others view you," Kerry told the Boston Globe.
Kerry’s limp response
The following is the text of John Kerry’s response to the President’s
acceptance speech:
"The election comes down to this. If you believe this country is
heading in the right direction, you should support George Bush. But if
you believe America needs to move in a new direction, join with us.
John and I offer a better plan that will make us stronger at home and
more respected in the world. And we need your help to do that.
"I believe it's time to move America in a new direction; I believe
it's time to set a new course for America. And we have a specific plan
to do just that. So tomorrow morning, John and Elizabeth and Teresa
and I are hitting the road across America’s heartland. From here,
we’ll go out and talk with Americans in towns across Ohio, Iowa,
Wisconsin, and Michigan. And because a stronger America begins at
home, we’ll talk about our plan to create jobs, cut taxes for the
middle class, lower health care costs, and make America safer and more
secure."

No New Ideas; Negative, False Attacks
Jobs growth good
Despite the Kerry campaign and liberal media predicting that job
growth figures for Friday would be disappointing, Reuters news reports
that a 144,000 new jobs were created in August. Reuters further states
that this is proof that President Bush’s tax cuts are working.
The unemployment rate dropped from 5.5 percent to 5.4 percent. The
Labor Department also increased hiring for June and July by 59,000
more hirings.
Kerry's Battle ground states shrink
The Kerry campaign has reduced its spending in Arizona and Missouri.
It appears that Kerry is narrowing his concentration to the close blue
states. This doesn’t speak well of Kerry’s chances of winning.
This means states like Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin are states that
Kerry is in fear of losing. In the last election, the Bush campaign
met late into the night to determine if they would do a recount in
Iowa and Wisconsin, which would have made up for a loss in Florida.
Kerry is running a special TV ad,
"Economy Ohio," in Ohio despite the fact that President
Bush has pulled ahead in that state. Part of the Ohio gambit is the
fact that no Republican has won the nomination for president without
winning Ohio. The other part of the reason that Kerry’s campaign has
cut a single ad for Ohio is because if they can’t win over Ohio who
has lost 230,000 jobs then Kerry can’t gain traction for jobs issues
and his campaign is probably lost.
Kerry continues to play for the middle class in all of the battle
ground states with his new TV ad, "Time."
The appeal of this ad and the Kerry strategy is for the economy to
bring enough other individuals into the anti-war vote to gain a
majority in the battle ground states.
The Bush campaign says they will bring out their TV ads after Labor
Day.
