The Newsweek Poll, along with the Time Magazine Poll, shows President
Bush with an 11-point lead over Democrat John Kerry. The poll, taken
immediately after the RNC Convention, gives Bush a 13-point bounce
since the August 5-10th poll done by Princeton Survey Research for the
Pew Research Center. Here are some of the poll’s highlights:

Bush job approval rating: 52% (up 7 points)

Honest and ethical: Bush 62% Kerry 42%
·
Says what he believes, not just what people want to

Trust him to make right decisions in international
crisis: Bush 57% Kerry 44%

Personally likeable: Bush 67% Kerry 59%
·
Better on terrorism and homeland security: Bush 60%
Kerry 32%
·
Better handling Iraq situation: Bush 55% Kerry 37%

Better handling foreign policy: Bush 54% Kerry 38%

As far as issues, 28% say terrorism and homeland security is the most
important; 21% say the economy; 13% say healthcare and 11% say the
situation in Iraq. Concerning Iraq, 55% believe the U.S. did the right
thing in taking military action there... 50% say the war hasn’t made
Americans safer from terrorism, 45% say it has.
The poll interviewed 1008 adults aged 18 or older on Sept. 2-3, 2004
and has a margin of error of plus or minus four points.
